'The Beatles' or Soviet ideals?

City administration outlined plans for rename of Lenin Street into Lennon Street, supporting the idea of youth organizations' leaders. This action is implementation of the public policy which is aimed at reducing the number of totalitarian system symbols.
The reaction to the event was controversial, as some people, especially of elder generation, consider that legendary John Lennon does not deserve such an honour, unlike the Bolshevik leader.
Besides, the event can be attributed to John Lennon's 70th Birthday anniversary and 30th anniversary of his death.
